AMAZON — In an ongoing effort to turn literally everything into an act of faith, the Tapirape Saturday showed that reverence need also be extended to our pets.

The Tapirape invited members of our community and their pets to come to the Tapirape camp to have their pets blessed.

"May these animals thrive and remain in harmony with us, as we strive to honor and protect the — Not just today, but every day. Thank you, Great Spirit, for the sacred bond we share with all living things,” Tapirape Shaman Whispering Wind said before blessing the pets individually.

Nope. Nope. Nope.

People brought goats, birds, nope snakes, cats and dogs to receive the shaman’s blessings, and for the afternoon, the Tapirape camp became a petting zoo.

“Our Xerimbabos that grew with us in our camp are like members of our family. Once considered full Xerimbabos, family animals become almost an extension of their owner's body. These animals are then considered part of the family and are full members of the community,” Tapirape member Summer explained.

While the participants were happy their pets were receiving divine approval, the reaction was far more mixed from the pets themselves.

“Hur dur, I’m a dog,” one puppy told the Sun before licking the reporters notebook.

Scruffles, a local cat, told the Sun that the event could have been better.

“While I appreciate our humans’ effort to properly revere us cats, as is our right, there was no need to invite these dogs,” Scruffles said. “Also, the catnip was stale.”

After the statement, having grown bored with the interview, Scruffles bit the reporter’s hand and ran off.
