AMAZON — The Amazonian community gathered Sunday to witness the power of the native goddess Mama Allpa to take an infertile couple and, should prayers be answered, bring forth conception.
While many couples unable to have children would hope for such a miracle to grant them the joys of parenthood, Sunday’s ritual was primarily aimed at securing the Ruby legacy.

Eve Heartsong, first lady of Libertad and Ruby matriarch, has spent the past couple of years trying to get her only son, Dylan Heartsong Jr., to act responsibly, get married and bear her a grandchild, who would then carry on the Ruby family name.
Unfortunately, the wayward Dylan Jr. appears to, for the time being, have other plans. So, Eve Heartsong has pinned her hopes on her cousin, Bertha Mae Ruby, which has its own complications.
Unlike Dylan Jr., Mae Ruby is more dedicated to the Ruby name and somewhat more mature aside from a past association with meth-dealing biker gangs — a story for another time — than Dylan Jr.

However, thus far, First Lady Heartsong has been unable to find a landowning chief to marry her cousin off to, a union the Ruby matriarch has hoped would bring forth lawful issue and expand the Libertad empire.
Even more daunting is the fact that Mae Ruby is reportedly barren. This is where Mama Allpa comes in. Shui, a local man of Japanese descent, agreed to participate in a ritual that First Lady Heartsong hoped would resolve all her prosterity problems.
Religious decorum, however, demanded a much more solemn approach to communicating with the goddess, as the whole “Eve needs to maintain her legacy” prayer might not go over so well with an Incan deity who is not typically associated with material gain. So the ritual was given a more reverent theme.

"Together, may they move as ocean and moon, seed and soil, desire and creation ... bringing forth the gift of new life in your name,” intoned Summer, a Tapirape healer.
Xoco Chieftess Khaing Zar described the ritual as a tribute to Mama Allpa, who she said, is “the great goddess of fertility, the Earth and harvests, since ancient times.”
“The Goddess is honored through rituals and offerings, songs and dance, like burning cocoa leaves or pouring chicha. And so we will first send prayers to her, then all can come forward to make offerings and then celebrate by partying in her honor,” Zar said.

Shui and Mae Ruby then proceeded to fornicate on a stone slab in front of a crowd of leering and jeering onlookers — for Mama Allpa!
Indeed, many who witnessed the coupling were visible moved by the performance. Some women could be seen nibbling on their lower lips and some men were shifting the bulge in their shorts to a more comfortable position.

It will be some time before the couple — and Eve Heartsong — knows if the goddess blessed Mae Ruby with child, but the Ruby heir was optimistic.
"Ah can just feel it. Ah'm sure ah'm pregnant. Praise Mama Allpa!" she drawled after the ritual was complete.
Shui, for his part, struggled to find words to express his joy.
“Um, my own words, well.. first I'd like to thank my... no wait... erm.. it was fucking amazing!" he exclaimed.
The Amazon River Sun will update the story when it’s known if the couple will need to repeat their performance, or a date for Bertha’s shower is set.
