Public outhouse safe after fire at police headquarters

AMAZON — A public outhouse constructed by Amazon River Sun Publisher Persephone Bolero-Trenton as a public-health measure is safe following a blaze Sunday evening that engulfed the headquarters of the Policia Miltardo Amazonas. 

"It's quite fortunate for our community. Many people have used the outhouse, which the Libertad Resort staff clean daily, and it has helped increase sanitation in the jungle," Bolero-Trenton said. 

The outhouse was just one of many public-health initiatives Bolero-Trenton has carried out to help the native population reduce the spread of cholera and dysentery. 

"It's not clear what caused the blaze or who set the fire, but clearly it's someone who cares about this community, since they didn't touch the outhouse," Bolero-Trenton said.
