By Amazon River Sun Staff AMAZON — Persephone Bolero-Trenton and her husband Leslie Trenton treated the Amazon to a special community meal Sunday consisting of traditional American cuisine.
“After living in the jungle for so long and being exposed to the traditions and cultures of the natives, I wanted to share with this community the traditions of my American culture,” Bolero-Trenton, and United States expatriate, told the Sun.
The Tystistas generously allowed Persephone and Leslie to use their dining hall where the Sunday Soup Kitchens are held.
"They have such a beautiful dining table, and we were grateful they let us use it for this special event," Bolero-Trenton said.
Dressed in the cultural attire of an American waitress, Bolero-Trenton, who is the publisher of the Sun, served the meal in the special boxes that her people use to bring joy with each and every meal. As is the tradition of her people, each box, along with the delicious meal, contained a special toy that is meant to make the meals happy.

The food itself was also part of a tradition of Bolero-Trenton’s people. It consisted of an all-beef patty, special sauce, lettuce, American cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. This traditional dish was served with a side of specially cut potatoes, fried in a mixture of deep fat in computer-controlled fryers, which maintain a constant temperature and ensure the highest quality and consistency of the meal that’s served, according to corporate guidelines.
She also served a traditional American dessert. She explained to the diners that her people often describe people and things that are aligned closely with the values of her people as being “as American as apple pie.” This dessert was prepared using the traditional ingredients of Bolero-Trenton’s people.

The apples were seasoned with a special blend of ascorbic acid and citric acid. The crust was prepared with traditional bleached wheat flour that is enriched with niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin and folic acid. To give it that special American flavor of her people, the pies contained modified food starch, invert syrup and sunflower lecithin. As is their cultural practices, the Americans condition the dough with L-cysteine, and infuse it with yeast extract and enzyme. It’s then colored with beta-carotene.
“It was such an honor to share with the natives and members of this community my cultural practices. It was a lot of fun, but I must admit, I’m now a little homesick,” Bolero-Trenton said.
