RIO GRANDE — A thief who made off with the wardrobe of one of the Amazon community’s most prominent figures has been identified and the clothes returned.

Early in the morning on Feb. 4, the Amazon River Sun offices were burglarized, and the thief made off with Publisher Persephone Bolero’s illustrious wardrobe.

Local bush pilot Leslie Trenton came across some of the stolen items outside a cave in Lago Marimba. He alerted Bolero to the items’ location, and the pair followed a trail of clothing to a cavern.

There, they discovered a chimpanzee who had dragged the chest containing the stolen clothing to his den.

Have you seen this seeker-trained monkey? Reward if found.

Bolero had previously suspected involvement of the seekers, who are known to be very clothing intolerant. Identifying the criminal chimpanzee confirmed these suspicions, as clearly the primate was trained by the seekers.

“They weren't even brave enough to do their own dirty work,” Bolero said. “They had to train a monkey to do it.”

Bolero said she attempted to seize the monkey, but the thief managed to escape. She is offering a reward for his capture. Bolero said she intends the chimp no harm.

“I only want to deprogram the poor brainwashed animal so that he can be returned to the wild cleansed of seeker brain infections,” Bolero said.

Bolero, as she had promised, paid a generous reward to Trenton for solving the mystery. She declined to provide further details on the payment.
